Old News in the Classroom

The News Archive Partner Program provides a way for Google and publishers and
repositories to partner together and make historical newspaper archives discoverable
online. As part of Google News, the News archive search function provides an easy way
to search and explore historical archives.

I’ve used this feature a couple of times in the past week with my 8th graders… they did seem to really enjoy seeing historical newspapers presented this way.

I remember being so excited to find a copy of a “moon landing” paper from ’69 at an antique shop when I was high school, so I had to buy it.

Funny how some things never change.

Anyway, this is a great resource for teachers in all areas/grade levels.

Seems I am unable to *like* this post using Android so I’ll leave a comment instead. Do you use Google Apps for Education in class?

Hi Dan – Yes, our school (http://www.spartanburgdayschool.org) uses Google Apps for Edu as of this year. Honestly, it has fundamentally changed the way we share info between students, teachers and parents and has been a hit even with the most technophobic faculty.

Good to know. There are not many people I've found that I can talk to about Apps for Edu.At the moment I've set it up for use by the kids, teachers are slowly catching on and using Docs to deliver classes. Staff don't seem to enjoy change so for the moment they're still on an old Exchange server. When you say that you use Apps to share info with parents, do you mean that parents have also been issued with accounts, or that you just use Docs, Sites etc to publish content?
