Consulting

Strategy, websites, and public voice for organizations doing meaningful work.

I help churches, schools, nonprofits, scholars, authors, and mission-driven organizations clarify what they are trying to say, build digital systems that support that work, and make thoughtful decisions about technology.

My consulting grows from the same practice of attention that shapes my teaching and scholarship: listening carefully, naming the real problem, and building what the work actually requires.

For more than twenty years, I have worked across digital strategy, website development, education, ministry, publishing, and organizational communication. During that time, I have helped organizations navigate the rise of social media, mobile platforms, changing patterns of public attention, and now artificial intelligence.

Much of this work begins when an organization knows that something is no longer working but has not yet identified where the deeper problem lies. Sometimes the website needs to change. Sometimes the language has grown disconnected from the mission. Sometimes too many platforms, tools, and habits have accumulated without a clear purpose. I help organizations sort through those layers and decide what deserves their attention.

Areas of Work

Strategy and Public Voice

Every organization has a public voice, even when that voice has never been named deliberately. I help organizations understand what they want people to know, why that message matters, and how it should move through a website, newsletter, social platform, publication, or wider communications strategy.

This work may include organizational messaging, audience development, communications planning, brand language, editorial strategy, campaign development, or helping a leadership team articulate the purpose beneath a particular project.

Websites and Digital Ecosystems

A website should provide a clear and inhabitable expression of an organization’s work. I design and develop websites with careful attention to structure, language, accessibility, search visibility, and the experience of the people who will actually use them.

My website work can include:

  • Website strategy and information architecture
  • WordPress design and development
  • Content planning, writing, and editing
  • Hosting, maintenance, and ongoing support
  • Search engine optimization
  • Email newsletters and audience connections
  • Analytics and assessment

I can carry a project from its earliest conversations through development, launch, and ongoing care. Keeping strategy and implementation connected helps the finished site remain faithful to the work it represents.

Technology, AI, and Organizational Discernment

Artificial intelligence and automation are changing how organizations write, teach, communicate, make decisions, and understand their audiences. These tools bring real possibilities alongside questions about attention, judgment, privacy, labor, authorship, and institutional identity.

I help organizations evaluate emerging technologies in relation to their actual mission. This may involve AI policies, staff workshops, responsible workflows, platform decisions, automation, data practices, or a broader conversation about which technologies deserve a place within an organization’s common life.

The goal is thoughtful use: technology chosen with clarity, governed by human judgment, and placed in service of work that matters.

How I Work

  1. Listen. We begin with the organization, its history, its people, and the situation that brought us into conversation.
  2. Clarify. We identify the underlying problem, the audience involved, and the outcome the work should make possible.
  3. Build. I develop the strategy, language, website, or digital system appropriate to the project.
  4. Support. When useful, I remain involved after launch to help the work adapt, mature, and stay connected to its purpose.

Projects can range from a focused advisory conversation to a full website build or a longer-term consulting relationship. I shape the scope around the actual problem rather than fitting every client into the same package.

Consulting as a Practice of Attention

My scholarly work asks how habits of attention shape our relationships with other people, institutions, technologies, creatures, and places. Consulting brings that concern into organizational life.

An organization’s public voice should grow from what it is willing to practice. Its digital presence should help people understand that work clearly and enter into it honestly. The most durable strategy begins there.

Beginning a Conversation

If your organization is considering a new website, trying to clarify its public voice, developing a publication or digital project, or working through a difficult technology decision, I would be glad to talk.

A first conversation is simply an opportunity to understand the situation, identify what kind of help might be useful, and determine whether I am the right person for the work.
